In January of 2014, three women in Dulles, VA had a dream to create a local food pantry that could serve the hungry in the Dulles South community of Loudoun County. It was a big dream and a daunting task.
Lisa Korhnak helped the pantry use utilize social media and her local contacts to generate a large turnout to our initial community meeting. From that meeting, a Steering Committee was formed. Lisa was instrumental in connecting local, like-minded organizations and one of these ended up offering space to house the food pantry.
As the pantry incorporated and became a 501(c)3 organization, Lisa has continued to advise in all things marketing. Currently, the pantry has 1400 likes on Facebook, has trained nearly 1200 volunteers, and have been connected to many generous companies and individuals thanks to her advice and efforts on our behalf. The pantry consults with Lisa on design of information cards, flyers, and signage. Lisa also produced a 3 minute video for the pantry that has been shared during local church sermons and via social media. At the pantry’s first annual review with the organization that houses the pantry, she acted as a mediator and has helped cultivate a respectful and supportive relationship between the two partners.
To date, the pantry has evolved from no space, no food and no volunteers to full shelves, plenty of volunteers and money in the bank. The pantry regularly serves 80+ families and 90 school aged children through their backpack food program.
